Perhaps there is not a month that we do not write about the Embracer Group conglomerate, which constantly makes purchases. This giant must already be divided into several divisions in order to function at all. These include Amplifier, Asmodee (now Twin Sails Interactive), Coffee Stain Holding, Dark Horse Media, DECA Games, Easybrain, Gearbox Entertainment, Plaion (formerly Koch Media), Saber Interactive and THQ Nordic. And all this is just “houses”, under which there are a bunch of studios, which can then be easily divided even further. However, this is probably still not enough for Embracer, because today it announced the purchase of not only several companies, but also the rights to well-known brands.
Let’s start with these companies. The Embracer Group acquired Limited edition gameswhich is a company dedicated to publishing physical copies of mainly indie or retro games, as well as Syntrixowning voice processing technologies in games and other software, Tux Labsthe developers of the recently released Teardown and Tripwire Interactivedevelopers of games like Killing Floor or Maneater, but they also act as publishers.
But that’s not all, there was also the announcement of a new division – Free Embracer Mode. And as part of that, the parent company announced other acquisitions, including Bitwave Games, Clear River Games, Game Outlet Europe, Gioteck, Quantic Lab, Grimfrost as well as Tatsujin (the first Japanese Embracer studio).
Another acquisition is said to be in the pipeline, likely to be the third or fourth largest in Embracer Group’s history.but the company is yet to reveal who it is.
But, as I said at the outset, Embracer didn’t just buy companies. He announced the purchase of the rights to two well-known brands: The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.. They achieved this by acquiring Middle-earth Enterprises through their new Freemode division. As such, Embracer acquired the rights to films, video games, board games, merchandise, hot dogs, and stage plays based on popular books written by J. R. R. Tolkien.. Embracer is already planning to create new films dedicated to such characters as Gandalf, Aragorn, Gollum, Galadriel and Eowyn.
Finally, in terms of financial results, Embracer boasted that 220 titles are currently in development, including 25 AAA titles due out by the end of FY2026.. The long-awaited AAA game will be announced very soon and will be released in the fourth quarter. (apparently fiscal year, so January to March). Looks like it could finally be about Dead Island 2the game appeared on Amazon with a release date February 2, 2023. We’ll have a few announcements at Gamescom..
