Developers try various ways to encourage players to buy their games before they are released. Some offer them cosmetic DLCs, others go straight for packs that define the gameplay as such. In the case of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the creators are betting, among other things, on the ability to go through the storyline even before the actual release, which is not quite common for current titles. Most of them open the multiplayer folder this way, not the single player folder. However, this can be considered an interesting move that will give potential players the opportunity to enjoy the story without rushing into multiplayer, which is quite frustrating for some due to the speed at which it works.
