The Lord of the Rings games have become some of the best RPGs out there, and it looks like avid fans of the Middle-earth saga will finally be able to get their hands on a new adventure thanks to the New Zealand studio. . Veterinary workshop.
Since the release date of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was pushed back (though we don’t have a reliable replacement this time around), J. Rings of Power fans can ease their woes.
Fortunately, Private Division (publisher of books like Rollerdome) is on the case, working with BAFTAs and Weta Workshop Academy (whose recent projects include Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) to bring Middle-earth to life. Again.
Details are scarce, but here’s everything we know about the upcoming Lord of the Rings game.
In their official press release, Private Division notes: “In 2014, Weta Workshop founded the Interactive Games Division and is currently developing a new game set in JRR Tolkien’s Middle-earth universe.”
While confirming that “this title is in early development and does not yet have an announced release date,” they state that it is “expected to release in Take-Two’s fiscal year 2024.”
Weta Workshop and The Lord of the Rings are closely related, as the studio has made a name for itself working on a trilogy of films that highlight Tolkien’s classic fantasy novels. They won numerous awards for their work on the trilogy, winning BAFTAs and Golden Globes for everything from best costume design to best visual effects.
