Marvel’s Spider-Man mods were inevitable after the release of the previously PC-exclusive PlayStation game, and this Symbiote costume mod lets you wear the iconic black and white spider-web costume in the superhero game. First seen in The Amazing Spider-Man 252 and made famous by his starring role in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, the Symbiote suit has become one of Spider’s most notable looks.
However, the costume was not among the options featured in Marvel’s 2018 Spider-Man, likely due to its rather unique nature. For those unfamiliar, the Symbiote Suit gets its name from the fact that it’s not just a cloth, rubber, and metal suit like other suits Spider-Man has worn. Instead, the symbiote itself is an alien life form that, as the name suggests, forms a symbiotic bond with the host entity by attaching itself to it.
As explained in the 1985 Secret Wars miniseries, Peter Parker discovers the symbiote’s true nature and rejects it, but when he attempts to remove it, the symbiote attaches itself to his body and is only removed by many strong sound waves. After that, the symbiote is best known for its association with Eddie Brock, who becomes known as Venom when he bonds with the creature.
Since then, less conspicuous variations of the black suit have existed: Black Cat famously made a version for Peter after fans expressed their love for Spider-Man’s black look, and a hint of that outfit appears in the game. Insomniac. However, this was canonically removed after Mary-Jane asked Peter to stop using it after Venom tested it.
Created by jedizosh920, the Symbiote Black Suit mod allows players to wear the iconic look from the new adventure game. It also comes with the added bonus of giving Peter Parker without a suit a new formal look with a black suit and tie. It’s the closest we’ve come to seeing an actual Symbiote suit before Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which is expected to feature multiple versions of the organic suit.
