The new Stray mod turns the lovable cat from BlueTwelve’s escape platformer into a tiny four-legged version of Shrek that, while we didn’t think it was possible, still manages to be a lot scarier than CJ from the GTA: San Andreas mod. . . .
Be Shrek Be Love is also the seriously creepy title of this Stray mod, which essentially takes an elaborate computer ogre and wraps it around a character model and animation for the sci-fi alley cat of the same name. He walks on all fours. He curls up and falls asleep in a strange twisted green puddle. Instead of meowing, he delivers movie lines in his sweet Scottish accent. In the past, we’ve seen the internet’s collective attempts to import Shrek into every possible video game, including Stardew Valley, but this cat/Shrek crossover is one of the most disturbing.
“This summer only,” announces the mod’s trailer, which shows some of the other Tramp Cats also transforming into little nightmarish Shreks, accompanied by a relatively romantic-sounding jazz saxophone, “great power awaits him. He plays as Shrek. I return to the swamp. To be loved. Be the life.” Those in the know among you will notice that just as cat ears flicker and twitch, so do Shrek’s weird little ear tubes. It’s the details that really make the mod stand out.
