Horror Alone in the Dark returns to scare gamers

Alone in the Dark is the granddaddy of the horror game genre, sending goosebumps up the spines of unsuspecting ’90s kids by plunging them into a monster-infested world that not only tested survival skills of the players, but also their mental health. Resurrecting the iconic series, Pieces Interactive brings Alone in the Dark into the present, and it’s every bit as terrifying as the original.

Released in 1992, the original Alone in the Dark paved the way for survival horror games by putting players in the shoes of Private Inspector Edward Carnby, tasked with investigating Derceto, a creepy abandoned estate infested with monsters.

Fast forward to 2022; Pieces Interactive said it breathed new life into Alone in the Dark by exploring the Louisiana setting and of course adding even more terrifying new monsters.

Although the release date remains in the dark, the trailer revealed during the presentation of THQ Nordic has enough to make your hair stand on end.

In Pieces Interactive’s Alone in the Dark, you can play as two different characters: Edward (the aforementioned private eye) and Emily. Both characters have unique backstories, which means you’ll be traveling to some regions as Edward and others as Emily.

Our protagonist’s uncle has disappeared, so she asks for Edward’s help to try to find him in the “psychiatric home” where he was. What they don’t expect is an evil conspiracy at the heart of Derceto Manor, where portals lead to strange and terrifying new worlds and monsters roam free.

As a solo player, you are tasked with taking down the evil that seeks to destroy all that is good and bring back your uncle, dead or alive. Set in 1920s gothic Louisiana and framed by sad “doom jazz”, you’ll have House of the Rising Sun in your head for days, even if it’s the sad one we heard in the trailer.

Oh, did I mention that the story was written by Mikael Hedberg? The brain of SOMA and Amnesia: The Dark Descent? and that too

A preview of Alone in the Dark will be available at Gamescom 2022, but there’s not much to say about this creepy RPG just yet, but we hear it’s going to be a disaster for a lot of poor gamers, and gosh, I know I’m the one.
