Killer Dead by Daylight Pyramid Head has been discussed and debated by the Silent Hill designer behind the original character, who is proposing that a modified version of the monster be used as a DBD killer in Behavior Interactive’s asymmetrical multiplayer horror game.
Masahiro Ito, artistic director of Silent Hill 2 and monster designer for the first Silent Hill trilogy, suggested that an alternative version of Pyramid Head be used as Dead by Daylight’s master in reason of the fact that the monster’s original design was created. specifically for Silent Hill 2 protagonist James Sunderland. In Silent Hill 2, one of the best horror games, Pyramid Head is a dark reflection of James’ psyche, reflecting his anger and bitterness towards his wife.
The monster is only meant to exist as part of James’ imagination and emotional struggles. So it doesn’t make sense from a lore perspective for him to go after Steve Harrington from Stranger Things or Bill from Left 4. Dead.
However, Ito created an alternate version of Pyramid Head in which the titular pyramid changes from the typical blood and rust red to a more neutral dull white.
This iteration of the character was said to be designed in response to Silent Hill: Homecoming and the 2005 film adaptation of Silent Hill, which used the original design much to Ito’s dismay as the monster was only meant to stalk and chase James and serve. as a metaphor. Due to his psychological state, his appearance in other Silent Hill media prompted Ito to create a more generic pyramid head that would still appeal to fans without clashing with the show’s fiction. Ito says that using this version, dubbed the White Hunter, instead of the original Pyramid Head “James” is what they “animate” as a DBD assassin.
“The original PH was a character I designed for James,” explains Ito. “But this [White Hunter] it was another Pyramid Head that was not originally intended for James. For me, if a white AP joins the DBD as a killer, it’s more than welcome because I designed it for this purpose.
If we look at all the assassins in Dead by Daylight, ranked from best to worst, Pyramid Head, or the executioner as he’s known in the game, falls somewhere in the middle, so a little cosmetic change like a color change probably won’t. cause a lot of trouble for fans; in fact, it would be good advice (in the form of a pyramid) for a great horror series and respected monster designer.
