With the Valorant Champions Tour 2022 Finals on the horizon, comes the haunting reality that there will be no VCTs to eat for quite some time until the top coin returns next year. Fortunately, Red Bull are bringing Home Ground back for the third year in a row, and it will be a grudge match between EMEA and North America.
From December 9-11, the top eight teams from both regions will battle it out for the Home Ground Trophy, complete with an undisclosed prize pool and appropriate bragging rights. While NA teams will be invited, those from EMEA hoping to join the action will need to go through the open qualifiers – teams from Turkey will have their own closed qualifiers.
The tournament promises a “neon futuristic underground aesthetic” and will be held this year at Manchester Victoria Warehouse, an iconic part of the city’s rich musical heritage. Oh, there will also be a live audience.
As with other Home Field events, the tournament will again use a “Home” and “Away” format, with each team choosing a home map to begin the draw. Although each match is a best of five, if a team wins both maps at home – effectively 2-0 – the draw is immediately over and the winning team takes the lead.
In last year’s tournament, Team Liquid took the lion’s share of the €60,000 (~$69,000) prize pool, beating 2021 VCT champion Acend 3-1 in the Grand Finals. Needless to say, the transatlantic upheaval that characterizes this year’s event will be spicy.
