Last week, the Ukrainian studio Frogwares officially announced their next game, which is Sherlock Holmes again, this time with the subtitle The Awakened. You might think that such a game has already been released, and indeed. This is a remake of the 2006 game of the same name. However, Frogwares has significantly redesigned it. They’ve reportedly been planning a remake for a long time, but the time is right now as development was hampered during the war in Ukraine and the studio needed to work on something they could coordinate. So a game that already has the basics in place is an ideal candidate.
In any case, Frogwares admits that without the help of the fans, this is not possible, which is why they also announced a just-launched Kickstarter campaign last week. The team asks 71 140 euroswhereas at the time of writing, more than 75% of the planned amount has already been collected. Supporters can look forward to many rewards: access to the game, an exclusive outfit, a background, an acknowledgment, an artbook, a soundtrack, or a side quest DLC. What you get depends on how much you donate. There are several levels, from €5 to €2000.
In addition to launching the campaign, the developers released two videos. One is about how they work during the war, the other is a trailer for the game itself. At the end, we find out that the title will be released in 2023according to the Kickstarter date it should be already February. Sherlock Holmes the Awakened strives for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
As for the details, we must look forward to 4 very different locations and 8 main casesthat take place in semi-open world. Of course he’s waiting for us questioning of witnesses, inspection of a crime scene or detainment. The game offers brand new graphics, models, animations and cutscenes. The story has been rewritten to reflect the events of the first chapter., so the changes mostly affected Sherlock, who is younger in the remake. The developers have also added new side quests, dubbing, UI and they changed the camera to classic 3rd personas we know it from recent titles. Everything will work on Unreal Engine 4.
Since this is a crossover with Cthullu, we are really in for a treat. a terrifying investigation that slowly drives Sherlock crazywhich is also reflected in his palace of thought. In addition to all this, one should expect riddles that make us doubt realityand their solution requires experimentation or out-of-the-box thinking.
And finally, one more great news. In the FAQ, developers answer the question in which languages the game will be available. But dubbed only in English. subtitles and user interface will be translated into several languages, including Czech.
