Steam introduces restrictions on image previews

From September 1, developers using cook for a couple change. Valve decided to change the rules for what exactly should not contain a preview image in the store. “Because we didn’t have well-defined rules, we saw added graphics that were confusing to customers and sometimes even gave inaccurate information,” he explains.

As an example, he cites a situation where the name of the game is too small due to all sorts of inscriptions and at first glance it is not clear what kind of game it is. The texts themselves on the image suffer from illegibility. In addition, the publisher boasts review scores that no longer apply.

Under the new rules, preview image content is limited to the cover art, game title, and possibly a subtitle. In addition to the aforementioned ratings from reviews, awards, discount notices, advertisements for other products, and other text are also prohibited. After all, developers have the opportunity to communicate with customers using the image. They can set a temporary image for a maximum of one month, the text must be localized and can only draw attention to new content.

Games that do not comply with the rules will not be found frequently in the store, and Steam will not include them in discounts or other promotions.
