Doom mods never disappoint, transforming id Software’s iconic PC FPS series in countless ways, right down to replacing the enraged Doomguy with a lovable and relatively calm cat from Stray. And now it’s Doom 3’s turn, which, thanks to a new mod, has just been completely redesigned with an incredible HD texture pack.
The Doom 3 Essential HD Pack, or D3HDP for short, has just been updated to improve every visual aspect of the 2004 shooter, from revamping the armor and HUD to adding little details like drop shadows, shells voids and retouched particle effect. in the energy beam plasma rifle. Various sound effects have also been reworked, including the original gun, which sounds dull and tiny in the base game, but here it’s enhanced with sounds from the original Doom 3 alpha.
There are too many monster cabinets and the level design will never match the great work of John Romero (who, by the way, plans to return to the FPS genre), but Doom 3 is still an important part of FPS history. and it’s worth it, even if you’re not a fan of the series finale.
The HD Texture Pack is available for free on Mod DB, created by a team of staff who combined their respective high-end mods into this stunning final product. But if you’re done with Doom and want to try something else, check out our guide to the best FPS games on PC.
