Terraria 1.4.4 is nearing completion, according to a new dev blog post on the Labor of Love update for the creation game, which also details major improvements to storage item functionality. The Void Bag, which is an extension of the players’ Personal Vault, is getting some very useful tweaks to make it more useful.
July’s Terraria State of the Game blog, written by developer Re-Logic’s Loki, begins by stating that “Labor of Love has reached a point where we believe the end of development is very close.” They say the list of bugs and challenges is shrinking and while they can’t give an actual release date just yet, “it’s starting to get some attention.”
However, the blog focuses on the new Void Bag update that will be part of Update 1.4.4. The Void Bag acts as an extension of the player’s personal storage, functioning as a chest that you can carry and store as you see fit. Unlike other personal storage options like Money Trough, Void Bag also has the ability to automatically store all collected items when your main inventory is full.
As part of a new update, the Void Bag can now be closed manually if you don’t want it to automatically pick up additional items. However, while it’s open, there are a host of new features that allow the bag to act as a more natural extension of your regular inventory.
First, all crafting materials contained within will be available for all crafting recipes without the need to directly access storage or summon the Void Portal. Any healing, mana, or buff potions stored in the bag can be used directly with their respective hotkeys, and a mana bloom potion’s auto-use can also be retrieved from there. The developers suggest that by toggling the state of the bag between open and closed, the player could switch between two different sets of potions at the same time.
You can now also add favorite items to the Abyss Bag, which is very important because the ability to quickly stack into nearby chests from the bag when it’s open is also included. Additionally, a number of other useful items will automatically work in an open empty bag just like in the player’s inventory.
This enhanced functionality extends to all informational accessories (such as compass and metal detector); construction tools, including a paint sprayer, pressure tool, and accessories that preview a cable, actuator, or ruler when in your inventory; Animal Friendship Guide; Keys (which can be used to open Abyss Bag chests); and wormhole potions.
All of this adds up to a pretty significant increase in player inventory capacity, making your journey through the world of Terraria that much easier. This is also aided by a significant increase in inventory stack size, which will increase the cap for most stackable items from 999 to 9999.
It was also recently announced that the Labor of Love Terraria 1.4.4 update will introduce gear sets, as well as an Ankh Shield endgame update and the ability to turn your playable character into a wolf.
