World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, WoW Dragonflight, is now in alpha, and with it the ongoing process of updating and improving various character classes. As interested gamers know, this new phase of MMORPG development is something of a throwback to the original, with a new talent system closer to the original pre-Pandaria talent trees. The latest alpha contains a number of tweaks to the previously announced talent trees for rogues, hunters, and shaman, as well as some juicy new talents and abilities. Let’s review some notable changes.
Rogues have a lot of new stuff on (or maybe under) the table. In terms of abilities, we have Kingsbane, a short cooldown that deals a nasty Poison DoT; Echo of Rebuke, a short cooldown that grants you an empowered combo point; Sepsis, a medium duration cooldown that deals a DoT and grants the ability to use Stealth; and Jagged Bone Spike, a 3-charge ability with a 30-second cooldown that deals a DoT that lasts until the target dies or leaves combat. As for talents, we have Wrapped in Choking, which buffs Garrote; and Silent Storm, which makes Stealth, Vanish, and Shadow Dance buff your next Shuriken Storm.
There are no new hunter skills, but there are plenty of new talents. Bloody Claws add synergy between Mongoose Bite and Kill Command Pack Resilience increases Dire Beast’s damage and duration; Merciless Marauder increases the critical strike of Eagle’s Rage against low health targets and makes said critical strikes reduce the cooldown of Wildfire Bomb and Flanking Strike; Ranger buffs the damage of Kill Shot, Serpent Sting, Steady Shot, and Explosive Shot; Intense focus forces the command “Go!” generate additional attention; Rejuvenating Wind allows Rapture to heal you further; and lastly, Bonded Companion, which reduces the cooldown of Coordinated Assault.
Just a new talent for shamans; Shakes the foundations and gives Earthquake a chance to instantly cast a chain lightning at a random target. Otherwise, the fire elemental received a damage bonus; Surge of Power now triggers from Elemental Blast and Earthquake, as well as Earth Shock and Voodoo Mastery, reducing Hex’s cooldown by 15 instead of 10 seconds.
