Vermintide 2 developer Fatshark has announced that the release of cooperative game Warhammer 40K: Darktide has been delayed. Release date set for September 13, Darktide is now scheduled to launch on November 30 on PC and Xbox Series S | X will take place after some time. However, some fans may join in earlier, as Fatshark plans to do technical testing and a beta before launch.
“Delaying a game release is perhaps one of the hardest decisions a developer has to make, and we’re not happy about doing it,” said Martin Walund, co-founder and CEO of Fatshark. “However, we hope it will show our commitment to taking our time and doing everything we can to bring you the best game possible.”
Fatshark doesn’t go into detail about what motivated the decision to discontinue Darktide. The build we tested at Summer Game Fest in early June was fun and playable, although there were some common pre-launch bugs with animations and asset loading. However, developing a cooperative live service FPS game that will run on a variety of hardware configurations and connection conditions is always a challenge, and it’s increasingly important for developers to make a good first impression.
This latest delay, which is roughly 10 weeks, follows the first, when Darktide was pushed out of its original late 2021 release window in part due to development issues caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic and the sudden need to work from home. .
Fatshark says that starting in August, they will recruit volunteer players to help test Darktide before launch. You can register on the official website. However, different tests will look for different types of hardware configurations and will have different scopes, so registration is not a guarantee that you will be able to participate in any or all of the tests.
The studio also says that if you’re selected for one of the tests, you shouldn’t expect any progress you’ve made in Darktide to carry over to the live game when it launches in November.
You don’t need to pre-order Darktide to participate, and Fatshark says it’s currently working on how to recognize players who pre-order the game. I don’t have much to share today, it’s safe to assume we’ll have something for these players in the future.” says the studio in its technical testing FAQ.
