Another secret was revealed in The Witcher 3

When the recently popular YouTuber xLetalis was discovered about 7 years after the release The Witcher 3 a special easter egg related to Vivien’s character and a wine and blood data disc, this was thought to be the very last mystery of Geralt of Rivia’s final gaming adventure.. But since The Witcher 3 is a truly gigantic and extremely complex game, it naturally wasn’t the last. Designer Philip Weberwho revealed the first clues related to Vivien, said on a recent CD Projekt RED anniversary stream that there’s one more thing that hasn’t been discovered yet.

It is therefore not surprising that xLetalis undertook another search. Weber revealed during the stream that the mystery offers important plot connections, being connected with the Křivuszke Blat area in Velen and the village of Ježibab.. This leads the search to the bad ending of The Witcher 3, in which Ciri is presumed dead and Geralt kills Pletana, the last survivor of the Haze. She is the one who reveals that Ciri died after entering Tor Gwalch’ka’s tower at the end of the main game. But before the battle with Geralt, in the cut-scene, you can see Pletana doing something. Something that it will remain in place after the end of the game, although the state of the game world will return to the point before the start of the epilogue.

This fact clearly indicates that this is something important, and indeed. In particular, this a newly created tapestry depicting Thor Gwalczka and some kind of bird flying away from the tower. It was briefly unclear whether it was the falcon, after which the tower is named, or the swallow, a symbol of rebirth and of Ciri herself. After all, the name Ciri comes from the Speech of the Elder and the name Zireel, which means “swallow”.but the name of the tower itself is also associated with the name of the warrior Falca, which Ciri did not use for long.

However, as soon as it was possible to extract the texture used by Pletana’s tapestry from the game files, all doubts disappeared and were replaced by sure it’s a swallow. And about the swallow that flies away from Tor Gwalchka. Philipp Weber even confirmed on Twitter that the secret is indeed connected to the tapestry, but at the same time said that it depends on how the whole scene is interpreted. And since then, he hasn’t revealed anything directly.

But it looks like it the tapestry suggests that even in the game’s worst ending, Ciri didn’t die, she just started a new life away from Geralt. What kind of life is of course a question, we can also ask what exactly Pletana had in mind and if this could mean that we will meet Ciri in the new Witcher anyway. Unfortunately, there are no answers to these questions yet.

Either way, it just goes to show just how many great details The Witcher 3 can hide over the years without fans really noticing. The idea that even this might not be the last unrevealed secret that the third Witcher hides is now almost self-evident.. We probably just have to wait for what one of the developers has to say one day to finally point the players in the right direction.
