Stray, BlueTwelve’s lovable sci-fi cat platformer, is now ranked the best Steam game of 2022 based on user reviews, beating out Sony Santa Monica’s God of War Scandinavian adventure on the tracking site. Steam250.
According to Level up, just seven days after its release on July 19, Stray garnered 46,244 votes from gamers, giving it an overall rating of 8.61, or simply put, 98% of gamers say they love it. . This means that Stray narrowly beats out God of War, which has garnered 53,182 user votes since January when it was ported to Steam from PS4, giving it an overall rating of 8.56, or 97% player approval.
This particular list only counts the games released this year. In terms of overall ratings, Stray still has a long way to go before it can be named the best game on Steam: in the top 250 of all time rankings, it currently sits at 44th, far behind Portal 2 at #1. But still ahead of God of War, up to 75.
Powerwash Simulator, Teardown, and Dorfromantik round out the top 5 rated games of 2022, while Neon White and Postal: Brain Damaged also make the list. Elden Ring naturally makes the table, but only at number 37, while the relatively obscure survival game Raft, which only released in June, sneaks into the top ten.
Drifter’s popularity will likely continue to grow, thanks to an already vibrant modding community that began working on a multiplayer mode and brought the eponymous furry protagonist to Doom in 1993.
