As good as it is, one of the biggest annoyances of Valve’s Steam Deck console is that many major games are still not supported, including the latest Halo game. Now, it looks like it’s finally possible to get a chance to play the Halo Infinite Steam Deck, and here’s how to do it.
By current count, there are currently over 4,000 Steam Deck games officially verified or available to play, though there are many more games that are unplayable. Although many Xbox games can be played on the console, Halo Infinite is not one of them.
That’s finally changing thanks to a new experimental Proton update (as Gaming on Linux pointed out). Although it’s only being tested right now, and you’ll need an additional app to install it, anyone with the update should be able to get Halo Infinite working on the Steam Deck.
Here’s how to do it on the Steam Deck:
- Go to Settings > System update channel and select Preview.
- In desktop mode, find the ProtonUp-Qt application and install it, then run the new update “GE-Proton 7-26”.
- Open the Halo Infinite installation folder and delete the “Videos” subfolder.
- Go to Halo Infinite in your Steam library and click the gear-shaped settings button, then Compatibility and select GE-Proton 7-26.
- Release Halo Infinite on the Steam Deck!
