A patch has been released for The Cycle: Frontier, a new free-to-play mining game that feels like a friendlier sci-fi version of Escape from Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown. A minor update brings some tweaks to weapon customization, fixes some bugs, and slightly improves anti-cheat detection. The Yager developers say cheaters have proliferated on The Cycle in the first few weeks, and they’re putting a lot of effort into beefing up their anti-cheat systems.
Patch 1.3.8 brings several significant changes to some of The Cycle’s gameplay systems. The performance requirements of some PvP missions have been reduced, now you have to kill one or two fewer enemies in the field. Similar changes have been made to various PvE missions, which now have a reduced number of targets to hunt in-game.
Yager also lowered the maximum number of active players on both maps by one and made some changes to the matchmaking system to “better protect new players and increase the difficulty for good team players.” In other words, new players will have a better chance of getting into a group with more players of the same starting skill level, rather than immediately running into experienced teams.
The developer also says that it has “lowered some of the detection thresholds of our internal anti-fraud measures,” which means it takes less time for the system to react. Going forward, executive producer Jonathan Lindsay said the studio would make a concerted effort to improve its fraud detection and suppression systems.
The developers explain that late-game weapons have been tweaked to make them “a little less badass.” So far, the team says it’s seeing the kind of spread it expected, with experienced players getting better gear and winning most of their fights against players with lower gear. However, there are always adjustments to be made along the way.
Another interesting fix with this patch is improved server performance, which Yager says should result in a smoother overall experience.
