The Stray Cat is based on a real alley cat, and here it is

Cyberpunk cat game Stray is here soon, and developer Blue Twelve Studios reveals that the game’s hottest cat star on Steam is actually based on a real moggie named Murtaugh, the alley cat that inspired Stray Cat.

Without further ado, here is Murtaugh, a homeless ginger cat. According to a PlayStation blog post from the team, he was “found on a street near the city of Montpellier, France, under a car.” Studio co-founders Viv and Kula now take care of him, and he is a “huge inspiration” for Tramp’s main cat.

The team wanted to create a protagonist cat that “felt really believable, especially for cat owners” and sought to “capture the friendliness, liveliness, and playfulness of a cat” when creating the game.

Other notable cats in the production include June, “Chief Executive Officer, Commanding Officer” and the bald sphinx Oscar, who helped the animators create realistic jumps and runs. “Of course, having real cats under our noses during development was extremely beneficial in many ways,” adds Blue Twelve.

Stray premieres on July 19. Here are the system requirements so you know if you’ll be able to pamper your PC when it arrives.
