DarkZero Esports was named the best Apex Legends team in the world during the Apex Legends Global Series Year 2 Championship, winning the list’s second consecutive title in LAN. Australian trio Rhys ‘Zer0’ Perry, Rick ‘Sharky’ Wirth and Noyan ‘Genburten’ Ozkose returned to the final after a slow start and secured themselves in the ninth game while several other teams were at Match Point.

While representing Reignite at the ALGS Split 2 playoffs in Stockholm earlier this year, Zer0 and Sharky raced to victory alongside last-minute replacement Jake ‘Jmw’ Walters, who replaced Genburten, who contracted COVID-19. While this may mean Genburten’s first glimpse of LAN victory, Zer0 and Sharky can now call themselves back-to-back LAN Apex Champions.

DarkZero took over the Reignite roster right before the ALGS Championship, and now the organization can claim to have a World Championship-winning roster in Apex Legends.

Zer0, Sharky and Genburten win the half million dollar grand prize.

Although the in-game action was incredibly exciting, the broadcast’s core audience topped 200,000 viewers, and the live viewers brought some serious energy, the Year 2 Championships didn’t was unresponsive.

Combining both visa issues and COVID-19-related absences, he missed some or all of the more than 30 players and coaches who qualified for the event. Some teams have appointed coaches or team managers to replace COVID-positive players, while others have started playing as a duo.

The lack of an ALGS Championship Plan B for COVID-contracted players has been heavily criticized by many, questioning why secluded or isolated playgrounds cannot be regulated.

At the end of the broadcast, it was confirmed that ALGS would return for the third year, and more details on the upcoming season will be available soon.
