Overwatch 2 beta patch weakens Junker Queen, Sojourn, and Zen

Blizzard’s new Overwatch 2 beta patch notes reveal details of the July 14 FPS update, and that’s bad news for fans of series newcomers Junker Queen and Sojourn. The patch also contains a nerf for support hero Zenyatta, while buffs have appeared for more maligned heroes, including Doomfist, Orisa, and Symmetra.

The first is the brash Australian Junker Queen, the latest in a string of new Overwatch 2 heroes. The latest addition to the tank roster has already caused a stir in the field, as anyone in the beta can attest, but was sidelined by a little.

The main target is his Command Shout buff, reduced from 20 to 15 yards. Additionally, the bonus health applied to allies now decays over time, as does Lúcio’s sound barrier effect, but its maximum duration has been increased from 4 to 5 seconds to compensate. The range of his Rampage ult has also been reduced from 6 to 5 yards to make it a bit less global.

Another newcomer to Overwatch 2, Sojourn, has had her primary railgun’s rate of fire reduced from 15 to 14 shots per second. Additionally, his alternate fire radius will now scale with his current energy level, from 0 when no energy to the previous size of 0.1 meters at maximum charge. This should make it a bit harder to get those headshots if you haven’t built up your strength. However, that won’t resolve fan complaints that his personality is “boring.”

There is also a small (but significant) nerf to support the hero Zenyatta, whose health is reduced from 175 to 150. This means that his total max health is reduced back to 200. In contrast, the three heroes who have had issues with the last patch are getting some love from the Blizzard team.

Doomfist, in his new tank role, will now deal damage to all enemies knocked back by his Rocket Strike (instead of the first target hit). His Power Block now only reduces movement speed by 35% instead of 50%, which should make dodging Sleep Darts and other crowd control abilities a bit more manageable. Additionally, Rocket Punch now only requires 90 damage to take down instead of 100, to compensate for the lower block percentage introduced in another recent patch.

Orisa regains her critical damage immunity during Fortify, returning to a recent change after unprotected war cattle became too vulnerable to enemy fire. The spear’s rotation speed has also been increased from 40% to 50%, allowing it to get closer to opponents faster.

Finally, with this update, the team continues its efforts to find a suitable location for Symmetra. The cooldown on her teleporter has been reduced from 16 to 12 seconds, while the cooldown on her Photon Projector Alternate Fire Orbs has been reduced from 1.2 seconds to 1 second, and their radius has been increased from 0.4 to 0.5 meters. However, it remains to be seen if that will be enough to finally put her in a place that satisfies fans.

As the second beta continues, Overwatch 2’s portrait glitch causes Doomfist to appear as Mercy. Meanwhile, players are suggesting that Junker Queen should be bigger, and they have real game reasons for it.
