WoW’s next expansion, World of Warcraft Dragonfight, is set to release later this year, and Blizzard’s Pat Dawson has addressed concerns that the game will release too soon.

With all eyes on WoW Dragonflight (the next chapter in World of Warcraft’s ongoing story), the specter of the Shadowlands is already haunting the new expansion, and it has yet to be released.

Released in 2020, Shadowlands drew players to Azeroth with its mysterious sights and convoluted story, but quickly went downhill after launch. Due to frustrating systems and plot holes, interest quickly began to fade.

Despite promises that WoW Dragonflight’s story will take players back to basics, some still fear that the next expansion will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor. In response, production manager Pat Dawson had some words of encouragement to allay fans’ concerns.

WoW devs say Dragonflight is ready

Speaking to PCGamesN, Dawson admitted: “I heard some of the feedback as well. What I will say is that it absolutely matches the pace of the expansion releases. We released Shadowlands in November 2020, so by the end of this year it will be at least two years since the last release of the expansion that many of our players are already used to.

“When we started working on these things, we didn’t change them in a few months,” he continues. “We’ve been working on it for years, before we released Shadowlands.”

With a smile, he says, “A lot of love, effort, and care has gone into the making of this supplement. I think this time players may be wary of a different alpha philosophy; this time we are doing it a little later than in the past.

“It’s really so that we can get specific feedback on each of these areas and the content that we release in alpha instead of putting everything in front of people or pushing things slowly and losing people’s interest. .

“I think with the alpha release, people will be able to see where we are with the game,” he says, concluding, “I’m glad they’re seeing this, and I think it will help build confidence that the end of the year is a very good goal for us.

The alpha version of Dragonflight is now available for those who have signed up for early testing. If you have been selected to participate in the alpha tests, you will receive an email at the address you provided during registration with an invitation to the wonderful world of the Dragon Islands.

If you missed the alpha and want to sign up for the beta, you can do so through the official WoW website. If you are looking for in-game addons to help you out, you should also check out our best WoW addons guide.
