Fortnite Creative can be as effective a learning tool as Minecraft. To non-educators, this might seem strange, but the educational version of Minecraft is quite popular, so Fortnite Creative has courses to help people use both options.
The course was recently posted on the Epic blog and is specifically aimed at helping “high school educators familiar with Minecraft use Fortnite Creative in the classroom.” The course consists of 11 videos and introduces many different game features and mechanics to show users how it can be used for learning.
The blog post itself also points out that there are probably the two biggest differences between the game when it comes to building. Minecraft, as you probably know, is all about building things, while Fortnite offers out-of-the-box assets. Theoretically, Fortnite is faster to build, but it may lack the complexity offered by another big difference: coding items.
Minecraft can be used to teach coding logic through the complexity of command blocks and redstone mechanics. Fortnite doesn’t have that kind of depth, instead it mimics that same freedom with different gadgets and mechanics. Things like the Item Pleasure device make it very easy for players to see how they affect the world while using them. This provides a more immediate feedback loop that anyone with children will tell you can be an important ingredient in teaching them. All in all, it’s crazy to see Fortnite talk so openly about bringing in the creators of Minecraft.
In other Fortnite news, competitive Zero Build players can enter the arena to test and prove their competitiveness and win some cool loot.
