As developer 343 Industries attempts to add old and unused content to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, fans are building a new version of Halo 3 ODST in the new Unreal Engine 5. You can explore Halo 2’s New Mombasa in the new engine now. yourself, just don’t count on shooting Covenant.

Halo 3: ODST was released in 2009, and while it’s a recent addition to the Halo: Master Chief Collection, it seems pretty old at this point. Today, fan developer Gearshift Media has created a more modern take on ODST’s iconic New Mombasa City as an “exploratory narrative experience” in Unreal Engine 5.

You can download it here, but don’t expect a full FPS game. As long as there is a cannon, there are no enemies to shoot. Dropzone is more of an “immersive experience” that allows players to explore the ODST excerpt and delve into what it would look like if the game received a new version of Unreal Engine 5.

You can check out a rather dark sneak peek below while you wait for the full 25GB download.

There are some great fan-made remakes in Unreal Engine 5. Starfield looks amazing, as does Bioshock and The Simpsons: Hit and Run. However, if you’re looking for something playable like Dropzone, there’s always this Superman game.

As for Halo itself, a new mod for Halo 4 is set to overhaul the game, and fans are upset that this August Halo Infinite prequel isn’t getting any DLC.
