Arguably the best entry in DICE’s flagship FPS series, Battlefield 3 gets a complete overhaul this week with a massive realism mod that features dynamic visuals, overhauled gameplay, and multiplayer servers that support 100+ players.

Yes, you read it right. The result of over seven years of work, Battlefield 3: Reality Mod feels more like a fan-made remake than just a simple mod, as it improves on and builds on virtually every aspect of the 2011 original. A large team of contributors funded by Patreon and led by Stefan Roos, the project was originally inspired by the popular Project Reality mod released for Battlefield 2 in 2006.

The intent is to “increase the value of a single life” in Battlefield multiplayer and “encourage players to cooperate and plan their actions, as well as strive to tactically and strategically analyze the battlefield.” To that end, a full roadmap of innovative features is planned for Reality Mod after its stable 0.1 release on July 17. Some of them are vague, like movement speed and weapon handling changes, but others are directly related to vision. tactical and thoughtful gameplay enhancements, such as removing the ability to spawn on teammates and introducing large maps, a minimalist HUD, and proximity-based VoIP channels.

Not all of these features will be available at launch, but version 0.1 will include weapon movement and mechanic adjustments, a new respawn system, and larger maps with a dynamic day/night weather cycle.

The mod itself is free to play, but you will need a purchased, legal copy of Battlefield 3 to use it, as the Venice Unleashed installation client only works if it can verify ownership of the mod game through EA Origin. . Full installation instructions are available on the Reality Mod website and download links will be added on July 17.
