DOOM 2016 was a very pleasant surprise for most players and reviewers. It was a return to the roots, where the blood of torn enemies flowed like a river. However, initially we should have been offered a sequel called DOOM 4 before it.. The protagonist of the entire story was not the protagonist of the Doom Slayer series, but a whole galaxy of characters fighting against demonic hordes for the fate of the Earth. In fact, it was meant to be closer to the popular Call of Duty than the original DOOM series.
For a long time, little was known about this canceled project. Bethesda didn’t really brag about it, so they forgot about it a bit. This was again drawn to the attention of a documentary from Noclip – Video Game Documentaries. Now, this creative company has once again released scraps of information not only about the lost DOOM 4, but also about the development of DOOM (2016). It’s clear from the footage that it could have been a pretty good game if it had been allowed to go through the entire development process. Interestingly, looking back, id Software, the company behind the DOOM brand, realizes that canceling DOOM 4 wasn’t exactly the best decision. However, she defends the move, saying that her bet on returning to the classic formula, which ended up being one of the reasons for the success of DOOM (2016), paid off more..
If you’re one of the fans of this FPS, be sure to watch the documentary. This is truly a quality creation.
