Patch 5.01 for Valorant bolsters the Phoenix and Yoru duo while improving the game’s Smurf detection systems. Here are the full patch notes.
Valorant Episode 5 Act 1 added a lot of content to Riot’s flagship FPS, and the new Pearl map is the most notable update to the game since the release of the Turkish Fade launcher.
Patch 5.01 is a bit smaller after the Episode 5 release update, but it brings some much-needed buffs to the mid-tier dueling duo, Phoenix and Yoru.
The KAY/O robotic launcher also received several quality of life changes, as well as improvements to the game’s Smurf detection systems; an issue that has plagued the game since its release. Looking for an overview of all the new changes? Here are the full patch notes for Valorant 5.01.
Update 5.01: Phoenix, Yoru Fans
Slightly behind their fellow parfragers in utility, Phoenix and Yoru finally got some long-awaited benefits.
British Bomb’s Curveball Rocket now lasts slightly longer and has less proc. His iconic Run Back ultimate also received a major overhaul, with Phoenix now respawning with all the shields he had before he duplicated.
After the revamp, Alpha Earth’s master of stealth, Yoru, received a few more improvements in patch 5.01. Able to turn invisible with Dimensional Drift for 12 seconds instead of 10, Yoru Mains will be able to sneak around the map and kill enemies more efficiently than ever before.
KAY/O also received some minor quality of life adjustments, with the FRAG/ment area of effect slightly reduced, as well as some adjustments to the audio cues when using his ultimate.
Smurf Detection Changes
Released only in North America (for now), Riot’s new functional Smurf detection system aims to improve matchmaking to ensure players are matched up with other players of a similar level.
The system launched on July 11 in North America and will likely ship to other regions if it’s successful.
