Traveling to Terraria’s Sky Isles is a great way to power up early in the game, and a nifty player has highlighted a little-known trick that lets you easily pinpoint their location. Usually trying to track down inter-cloud floating island bases in indie games before flying can be quite a laborious process, but this reliable track makes it easy to tell when you’re nearby, making it a great way to pick up gear. powerful for the first games.

Reddit user SageWayren posted a clever tip on the game’s subreddit, where it quickly garnered almost 10,000 upvotes (at the time of writing) from players who were surprised to learn such a useful method they hadn’t discovered before. . SageWayren says they’ve been using it for a while, but decided to share it when they realized it wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the game’s extensive wiki.

The method is deceptively simple: all you have to do is explore the surface layer of your world, keeping your eyes on everything. small puddles two blocks deep. When you find it, simply pull the rope up from the ground (or whatever your preferred climbing method is) and ideally you’ll reach the floating island above. Here you can hack any chest and often get powerful equipment like wings or a sword that summons shooting stars. Watch out for the harpies!

The explanation, in short, is quite simple. These shallow puddles do not spawn naturally in ground-level biomes as part of the initial co-op world spawn process. Instead, the water that appears around the edges of sky islands when they are created falls to the surface and settles in later stages of world creation. This also explains why puddles sometimes appear in biomes like the desert, where water does not form naturally.

As SageWiren points out, there are a few notable exceptions. If you’re in a jungle, this might not be a reliable indicator, as the default jungle biome can spawn those little puddles. If you can also see a clear source of running water running down into a pool, that’s also not a sign of an island above.

Otherwise, though, this method is a fantastic way to energize early on – we tried it ourselves, and got the powerful Starfury Sword just minutes after we left. It might not be as cool as throwing an anti-gravity potion, but it’s a lot faster.

A new in-game item introduced in the 1.4.4 update helps stop the spread of evil biomes.
