Outriders Worldslayer addon review – for hardcore fans

The original Outriders game divided players into two rather different camps at the time of its release, with holiday players somewhat skimming the surface and cursing the game for its inability to handle overloaded servers (probably due to the simultaneous release of the game on Game Pass with a “free” subscription) . However, die-hard fans of the looter shooter genre were simply delighted with the gameplay, loot, and extensive endgame “build” options after the completion of the story campaign. Personally, I was also pleasantly surprised by the extensive setting and sometimes amusingly cynical plot of the game. But it makes no sense to turn a blind eye to the fact that for the vast majority of the public, problem servers (sometimes even capable of deleting a player’s progress) broke the game’s neck. Therefore, the Worldslayer add-on is unlikely to interest anyone other than hardcore fans of the genre and the original game.

Nice but short campaign

The first “half” of the expansion is a new chapter of the story following the end of the original game (if you didn’t complete it or don’t have a character of the required level, it is possible to get a “promotion” and immediately start playing the expansions). The anomaly raging on the planet continues to grow, and it turns out that it can be even more dangerous than it seemed at first. At the same time, the leader of a new faction appears, who refers to the destructive anomaly as the only correct option for the further evolution of the human race – given its mutagenic effects. In the role of your Outrider from the original game, you have to deal with both threats – find protection against the growing anomaly and destroy the new aggressive enemy with its army.

Of course, the answers and tools you need are hidden in alien ruins for you to conquer and explore. But you will not get to their center – the game will hide this part as a bait for special end-game content. Still, during the campaign, one can’t help but applaud the graphic designers who once again created ridiculously impressive locations and views reminiscent of games of the caliber of Elden Ring. Of course, these locations are just the backdrop to a noticeably linear maze of alleyways and shootout yards, but that doesn’t change how impressive the game looks in places. Unfortunately, it is weaker with a story that, in its roughly two-hour duration, does not have time to unfold much and does not show much of that peculiar cynicism that I liked so much in some passages of the original game.

Graphic artists have once again created absurdly impressive locations and views.

If you played the original game, your gear (weapons, armor, character abilities, and how it all fits together) is set up so you can easily beat the campaign, especially if you lower your Apocalypse Rank or difficulty. On the lowest settings, you won’t need anyone’s help in this case, and you mow down dozens of enemies before they can harm you. However, as with the original game, the situation is quite different on the higher difficulty, where the game is noticeably optimized for the cooperation of two or ideally three players. And that brings us to the second half of the encore: the endgame.

Significantly enriched endgame

The Endgame news can be divided into four categories: one is a brand new location/activity called Tarja Gratar’s Trial, the second is the addition of new Apocalypse ranks to overcome, and the third is a new additional tree to improve your character’s attributes. , and finally fourth is a bunch of new gear, both weapons and armor. Of course, new gear is always fun to discover and test, but there’s also the fact that absolutely every item in the game now has a chance to be placed in a new “class” with one extra perk (weapons and armor can only have two perks). before, now there are three). In practice, this means that even the strongest build from the original game can now be about a third more destructive/effective.

If you’re one of those players who can spend hundreds of hours “building” in games like Destiny or Diablo, that alone should be enough for you to get the Worldslayer. In your quest to create the perfect build and overcome the highest scales of Apocalypse Rank, the fact that the trial activity offers a target farm of items will also help you – certain rooms guarantee a certain type of equipment, such as a helmet or armor. At the same time, the Trial is the most interesting addition to the lore of the entire game, when at the end of all activity there will be certain revelations about the nature of the anomaly and the universe in which the game takes place. However, if you delve deeper into the endgame, then you will encounter certain disproportions in the distribution of loot, where, for example, getting new weapons is quite difficult, and helmets drop noticeably more often than other pieces of equipment. Either way, the good news is that fans of the original will have just as much fun as the original game, and the servers are already fully stable.
