Several different Japanese gaming sites (4Gamer.net, Dengeki Online and Famitsu ) has published new interviews with the creators of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, revealing tons of new information about each game.
Those interviewed included Yoshinori Kitase (Executive Producer of the Final Fantasy VII series), Tetsuya Nomura (Creative Director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Creative Director and Character Designer of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion), and Mariko Sato (Producer of Crisis Core: Reunion of Final Fantasy VII) .
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion
Zack will get more space in the game, and he appears more often in Final Fantasy VII Remake than in the original Final Fantasy VII. This was not the original plan, but as Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion was planned and developed, there was a desire to better understand the character known as Zack.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion will eventually be improved to such an extent that no part of the original game will remain untouched by the creators. Simply put, everything has been replaced. The camera and movements have also been adjusted, as well as completely redone all the call videos.
Apart from Zack, all major characters such as Cloud, Aeris and Sephiroth have been redesigned.
The battles were then changed to improve the overall pace. Zack’s attacks can now be combined into combos and magic, and other abilities can be selected via shortcuts. Battles are also smoother thanks to the cancellation of some DMW cutscenes, and limit breaks and summons that previously activated immediately after filling their Digital Mind Wave slots can now be activated at will.
another plus is that on modern platforms there are more buttons on the controller (compared to the original PSP version), so you can move the camera at will with the right analog stick. Even in combat.
Added elements from Final Fantasy VII Remake to the combat system. For example, a mode change has been implemented that allows Zack to use powerful attacks.
All scenes in which characters appear and dialogue text is displayed are now fully voiced, as well as voiced by NPCs. The voices of some characters were also re-recorded, but not all of the main characters.
Other minor changes, such as the placement of treasure chests, were made to improve the overall gameplay, but since this is a remaster, there are no new missions or anything like that.
A hard mode has been added to the game (it was also part of the Western release of the original Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII), which can now be selected from the very beginning as a difficulty level. As such, enemies have high health in battles, and your approach to hard mode combat requires a little more thought. But you can change the difficulty level at any time during the game.
The story remains faithful to the original game, and no new storyline has been added as in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Final Fantasy VII Remake was created in such a way that it was possible to understand the secret of history only after playing to the end, and the creators did not want to change the past. Thus, the story of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion was not revised in the sense of changing the story.
Visual changes were also made to make the game more in line with the Final Fantasy VII Remake title, such as the design of the Buster Sword and the appearance of the summon.
Square Enix then released new screenshots of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, in which they revealed the game’s story, characters, various game enhancements, and the combat system.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is due out this winter on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and Steam for PC.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
The words “remake” and “revival” have similar meanings, that is, “revival”. Or that “2” exists only because of “1”. This makes it clear that you can enjoy Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as a standalone game.
The reason for delaying the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was to decide whether it would be a two-part series or a trilogy.
When it comes to the Final Fantasy series, it’s common for only the core members of the development team to remain after the game ends, while most of the other employees move on to other teams. But since it was decided from the beginning that the Final Fantasy Remake project would be released in multiple parts, the same team could start working on the sequel while maintaining the existing distribution of work, know-how and momentum. Thus, development was extremely fast. However, due to the large amount of resources needed, the creators do not have time to rest, and development is in constant motion. The main parts are ready and we are currently in the mass production phase. Overall development is said to be going well and work has already begun on areas such as the story and script for the third title.
In the same way that we created Midgar for the fans of the original Final Fantasy VII to appreciate, we’re trying not to destroy the fans’ perception of the original when developing Rebirth.
To the dismay of fans who ask, “Can this story be told in a trilogy?” and if what “Will this be an abbreviated version?” the creators have stated that it will not be an adaptation of the original story.
As for the information on whether the game will be open world or not, we just have to wait for the official announcement of new information.
The shared game systems from Final Fantasy VII Remake will be carried over into the game, and the trailer scene where Cloud and Sephiroth are together is Cloud’s flashback.
The 3D models of the main characters have not changed, but some characters have been changed. Like the Yuffie model we took from Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.
The main focus of the story has not changed. As for the new secrets and mysteries that make it different from the original Final Fantasy VII, they have been included in the game so that players of the original can enjoy them in a new way. The challenge for this project was how to incorporate these new mysteries without deviating from the original.
However, several changes were made during the development of the game. If during the game you find yourself saying that it “was different” or that “something is missing and something was left out”, it’s because the structure of the story has changed quite a bit since it’s a trilogy. Although the order of visiting some locations may change, the developers adhere to the principle of not cutting or missing anything.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 due to the graphics quality and data access speed of the SSD. Since the adventure of escaping from Midgar takes place in a huge world, downloading large amounts of data is an extreme point: “We felt we needed the performance of the PlayStation 5 to achieve this and comfortably travel the world.”
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on PlayStation 5 in late 2023.
