Disney sneaks up on us from everywhere.
From TV screens with the new Disney+, from mobile phones with the game Mirrorverse, in which evil copies of popular characters want to conquer the fairy-tale world, and now also from computers in the racing game Disney Speedstorm. We will elaborate on this in today’s preview.
Four months ago at Nintendo Direct we were presented with a racing game from the world of Disney. Later, this was remembered on the occasion of the Summer Game Fest, which we also broadcast for you. That’s when we thought these races they look very good. And after we were invited to pre-test, we were able to experience the sensations of the game right on our computers.
We finally have some real fairy tale racing that we don’t need a console to play.
This is the right one fast chaosin which, as your favorite hero, you get behind the wheel of a modified kart and use bonuses for speeding up, protecting or destroying opponents, trying to get to the finish line first.
In recent years, this type of game has been available mainly for Nintendo consoles. On computers, we could only brush up on female racers from the world of Crash Bandicoot. But this is with the arrival Disney Speedstorm changesbecause the game is multi-platform, and it will be playable on older and new generation consoles, on the Nintendo Switch and especially on the computers already mentioned.
Disney is the perfect racing world. To be able to put the stroller behind the wheel famous peoplesuch as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Hercules or characters from Mulan, Pirates of the Caribbean or The Jungle Book.
Some features were limited in Early Access, but it brought us a lot of content and fun to know what to expect.
In particular, there are solo races, daily events, story races and more than 50 races to help you get started. Every used bike has its own challenges that have rewarded us generously. And the rewards were a very important part of the game. I don’t remember really having to collect as many materials to level up in a racing game as I did in Disney Speedstorm. But if you think about it, after the sign flashed on us when we started the game Gameloftwe are not very surprised by the collection.
You can upgrade each hero up to dozens of levels and you can talk about it in matches. The material for this shift is mostly track quest rewards, then dailies, shop, battle pass, loot boxes… Yes, let’s say it again. Battle pass, loot boxes, shops. Does the dart open in your pocket? Well, they don’t need to yet. Because we could get any game currency in early access just by playing, and quite easily.
However, we still have no idea how the monetization system will be solved, because there was no way to help the currency in any way with real money. On the one hand, this sounds good, but it can be seen that this is only due to early access, since the game is marked as free, so the creators will need to earn money somehow.
We were able to get the Battle Pass itself after some time of playing and completing tasks. So the name is still a mystery to us. But we certainly won’t spoil the fun by arguing about what isn’t in the game yet, and let’s focus on what Disney has to offer.
Race handling is just great. Dynamics combined with clarity is what we need from games of this type.
It took us a maximum of 2 minutes for one round, which we were able to fully enjoy. This was facilitated by bonuses in the form of acceleration, defense and attack. These are, for example, boomerangs or mines, which can cause real harm when in contact with the player. In addition, each of the individual riders has their own special ability that can be activated after collecting the bonus. For example, there is Hercules and his superacceleration in the form pegasus team.
Another nice attack option is dodge, with which you can quickly move left or right, and when you hit an enemy, you stun him. Like in Crash Team Racing, for example, and here you can slide. The skids will complement your boost indicator, which is often useful once activated.
The cards themselves are inspired by individual heroes. Therefore, you can expect a track that will take you to Greece or to the ship of Captain Jack Sparrow. These tracks are filled with various detours and traps, so it’s best to get to know the route as best as you can. Each round is accompanied by a very good remix of Disney music.
In Early Access we had about five cards. Which was a little. I mentioned earlier that you will need to drive very often to improve your racer to a level where you can compete with other players, so the tracks will look pretty soon. On the other hand, you will remember and master them very quickly.
Most of the races are against computer controlled opponents. And special races open only on weekends. against real players. But after the release, this will not happen, this is how it was set up as part of testing, where the developers did not even try to put similar levels of racers in multiplayer games.
So when I joined Level 7 Mickey Mouse and faced three opponents around Level 20, my chances of winning were slim. When this happened twice in a row, I thought it wasn’t time yet and went back to raising my level and ego against the computer. But according to information, this will not be fully available.
So far, we have good feelings about Disney Speedstorm, and we are curious to see how much the full version will bring us, which should be released later this year. However, you will be able to test the game for yourself this week as there is an event on Steam where the creators they give access immediately after the request. So hurry to the track.
