Street Fighter 6 developer tries to ‘redesign’ Street Fighter 2

Street Fighter 6 aims to “reimagine” Street Fighter 2, says game director Takayuki Nakayama in a new interview published by Game Informer.

“We certainly faced a lot of challenges in the production and development of this new game,” says Nakayama, “but when it comes to previous games, we’re definitely looking at classic Street Fighter 2. We see how we can redesign Street Fighter. 2 and interpolate it into a modern visual aesthetic and environment.”

When asked about the next fighting game we plan to release in 2023, Nakayama speaks candidly (and for us classic fans, reassuringly) about Street Fighter 6’s other retro sources, including locations from Capcom’s Final Fight and the art and music of Third Strike. , a spin-off of Street Fighter 3.

“Final Fight had a huge impact,” says Nakayama. “In the new around the world mode that we just introduced, the starting point is Metro City, one of the most famous locations in Final Fight. I think the direction and background music for Street Fighter: Third Strike fit the work very well and were instrumental. Street Fighter culture has always been tied to hip-hop, and that’s what we’ve embraced.”

The World Tour is definitely one of the most intriguing additions to Street Fighter 6. The story-driven single player game allows you to explore an open world made up of some of the most famous locations in the series and fight alongside legacy characters like Ryu and Chun. -Li. According to Nakayama, it is an attempt to “recontextualize [Street Fighter] series for people who are not familiar with fighting games.

Also, the new kind of modern controls that will be introduced in Street Fighter 6 make it easier for less experienced players to pull off flashy and special moves with simplified input, though classic controls will remain an option for purists and veterans.

We’ve got a full collection of Street Fighter 6 facts, leaks, and speculation, including what to expect from the new lineup and driving system. But if the game really builds on the legacy of Street Fighter 2, you can’t be wrong.
