EA Skate beta program announced with first sneak peek of the game

EA is inviting gamers to join Skate Beta as part of its Insider Program to help test and provide feedback on the highly anticipated skateboarding game. The publisher has announced that it is “still working” on the next Skate game (previously known as Skate 4) with the first “pre-pre-pre-alpha” skating game teaser. “We told you we’re back,” begins an update inviting players to sign up for EA’s Closed Game Insider tests.

“Skate Insider playtests will be closed to anyone selected to participate,” EA emphasizes, saying that sharing anything from information to videos to screenshots of playtests will be prohibited.

The teaser video, which EA says is still in its early stages, shows dozens of simplified player models skating together in a mix of more realistic environments and ridiculous, over-the-top designs. Skaters are shown performing various kickflips, grinds, and other tricks you’d expect from the show, as well as climbing ledges and even running up walls.

So far things are looking very promising and EA hopes that players who sign up for the Insider program can help with the process. The team says that it is “introducing the game to players much earlier than is common in our industry”, trying to create the best possible game through a combination of playtesting and player feedback. Playtesting is currently limited to PC players via the EA Origin client.

Considering how long fans have been clamoring for a new Skate, EA is clearly looking to get it right. We hope this show will ensure that dedicated fans get the new game they think the series deserves.
