Respawn’s battle royale Apex Legends may have released in 2019, but player stats show the game had its best month ever on Steam, peaking at 392,998 players – and that’s only part of the story .
The stats showing the peak player count for February 2022 come from Steam Charts, a website that tracks the number of gamers playing games from the Steam database.
You may have noticed then that these numbers do not take into account the activity of people playing Apex Legends on other platforms. So not only does this include many versions of the game on consoles such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S and Nintendo Switch, but those numbers don’t show how many people played the game through EA’s own store, Origin.
The renewed interest in Apex Legends is likely due to the game’s Season 12 update, which released earlier this month and brought some big changes. A new legend named Mad Maggie has joined the fray, a new limited-time mode called Control has been introduced, and plenty of rewards for logging in to celebrate the game’s third anniversary.
It’s not every day that a game reaches its highest number of registered players three years after release, so it looks like Apex Legends is going from strength to strength and is solely based on the game’s Steam event. It will be interesting to see if March can take the battle royale’s popularity to new heights when the Apex Legends Mobile release date arrives in a few days.
