Mercy and Symmetra are heavily nerfed in the Overwatch 2 beta

Overwatch 2 has launched its new beta and there have been some major changes to the entire character roster, including the addition of Junker Queen and some major nerfs on Mercy and Symmetra that have left fans unhappy.

Starting with Guardian Angel, Guardian Angel’s fast travel ability can no longer be canceled midway by pressing crouch, and if you reach the end and throw all 30 yards at a wounded ally, the Angel will now automatically dash upwards in a huge mega jump. Previously, this jump was optional: players could stay on the field to quickly return to help another teammate. Now, if you do the right thing and try to help someone with the help of a guardian angel, you helplessly catapult yourself into the action and into the line of fire of every elite marksman chained to the ceiling or window.

Symmetra’s abilities have also been significantly reduced. While her Photon Projector’s max ammo has been increased from 70 to 100, it no longer regenerates ammo when barriers are damaged. Its maximum damage has also been significantly reduced from 120 to 90, and its charge time is now 1.2 seconds, up from 1 second. Symmetra’s turrets no longer slow targets as much – hitting turrets used to slow enemies by 20%, now just 15%. Similarly, Simmertha’s teleporters are less durable and her max health has been significantly reduced from 300 to 200.

The players reacted to the changes with disappointment. “This is garbage,” writes user Responsible_Ad2291, speaking of Symmetra on Reddit. “They took away his ability to compete with other fighters.”

“Automatically making yourself jump when flying at someone is an incomprehensible decision,” writes another, feeleep, in response to Mercy’s changes. “So embarrassing. I hope he recovers soon.”

For its part, Blizzard explained that changes made in the Overwatch 2 beta could be rolled back before the game’s full release on October 4.

“This process of change, discovery, analysis and change is an endless cycle of balance,” explains the developer. “With every new hero release or rework, we have to be prepared to make changes to make sure they are neither too strong nor too weak. When we make changes, we constantly assess whether those changes have been effective or if they need an extra push. The balance of the game is a marathon, not a sprint, and there are many more hero changes on the horizon.”

And fan reaction to Overwatch 2’s new hero, Junker Queen, seems to be growing more positive as players appreciate his tech weapons. and discovery that you can use his knife to poke people into holes, even in a corner.
