The Day Before is one of the most anticipated future games on PC, with much of that popularity coming from Steam wishlists. According to developer Fntastic, The Day Before has now been pushed back to March 2023, but it has also been revealed that the team is made up of unpaid and paid “volunteers”.

Survival game The Day Before is the most popular game on Steam, even higher than Hollow Knight: Silksong and Starfield, and originally released on June 21, then received a big delay to 2023, which the IGN team confirmed, due to the presentation of the unreal. Engine 5 in an open world game.

Although this seems quite complicated, a more surprising fact (as pointed out by Zach Jackson by WellPlayed) is that Fntastic has updated their website to show that the team is made up of many unpaid workers. “Fantastic’s culture is based on the idea of volunteering,” says the site. “That means all members of Fntastic are volunteers.”

Ironically, that includes “full-time volunteers” who, ahem, “work for pay.” Fntastic acknowledges that the number of paid volunteers is “limited” and that the majority of the team is made up of part-time volunteers who are not paid and are compensated with “exciting rewards, certificates of participation and free codes”.

These unpaid volunteers can be responsible for anything from “translation to community moderation,” but they can also “offer their unique skills to improve our projects or create new special features.” For an open world survival game in Unreal Engine 5, that’s a lot of features.

Eve is out March 1, 2023. Unless, of course, you have another delay.
