Accurate and vibrant colors on a monitor are a bit of alchemy. At the same time, color saturation and correct shades are among the image properties that the eye first of all pays attention to. That is why manufacturers began to install monitors with Quantum Dot technology. In the following lines, we will tell you what the magic of these nanoparticles is and in which monitors you will find them.
A quantum dot is a semiconductor particle with a size of 2 to 10 nanometers, i.e. ten thousandths of a human hair. The extremely small size determines the unique physical properties of these particles. These include excellent absorption of the light that the particles re-emit. That’s why it’s suitable for displays.
Individual crystals emit color depending on their size. Light stability is high and colors do not mix with each other at the same time. This is why the Quantum Dot emits above-average accurate colors at large scales.
Crystals with quantum dots, as already mentioned, also provide a high degree of luminosity. Therefore, the brightness of monitors with Quantum Dot technology usually reaches higher values than models without these crystals. In addition, particle efficiency does not increase power consumption.
MSI uses this technology for several series of monitors. Thanks to the specifications, we can easily check the properties of Quantum Dot.
Artymis curved gaming monitors use MSI Quantum Dot Premium Color and thus offer a Delta E < 2 color deviation. At the same time, these gaming monitors have HDR 400 and 128% sRGB coverage, 93% Adobe RGB and 95% DCI-P3. All this is paired with up to 530 nits of brightness, QHD resolution, and a refresh rate of up to 240Hz.
Artymis monitors boast a 1000R dynamic curve that will absorb you to the max. You will always have an overview in every game. MSI chose this curvature to naturally mimic the eyes.
The Optix series is similar. Large 32″ and 34″ monitors provide up to 144% sRGB coverage or 97% DCI-P3 coverage. At the same time, they have a resolution of up to 4K and a refresh rate of up to 175 Hz. Monitors in this series, which uses Quantum Dot, have better HDR (600 vs. 400), wider color gamut up to 20 percentage points. So far, we have mainly talked about the benefits of monitors for PC gamers. However, there is also an Xbox version of the MPG321UR-QD that is directly approved for use with Microsoft’s console. MSI offers a number of features for consoles. For example, SoundTune removes background noise during communication or smart brightness. As a result, the monitor automatically dims in the dark and relieves the eyes even when playing at night.
Other selected models can receive 4K signal from your Playstation 5 for editing and display it in QHD format. This distinction is not supported by the Playstation itself.
The console optimizations mentioned are available for multiple monitors in the Artymis and MAG/MPG series. For example, MPG ARTYMIS 273CQR-QD, MPG ARTYMIS 273CQRX-QD, MPG321UR-QD and MPG321QRF-QD. You can also try quantum dot in practice with them.
