PC gamers looking for their own Pokemon-like game may have been eyeing Temtem for some time as a promising collection of alternative creatures. Now, developer Crema is giving details on TemTem’s microtransactions, campaign structure, competitive play, and more when the RPG hits its full 1.0 release on September 6.
During Crema’s Golden Week event, the team released announcements each day focusing on a different aspect of the game. Crema talks about the progress of the campaign, stating that they have reduced the number of mandatory NPC battles by about 20% (although the battles will continue can be played for players who want them) and many NPC dialogues have been rescheduled after the battle so that players who aren’t interested in the narrative can skip them. Additionally, the new experience bonus applies to subjects outside of your team when playing co-op.
The team then discusses Temtem’s competitive multiplayer modes, introducing a new “TemTem Showdown” format that allows players to engage in friendly or ranked battles without having to manually catch and train their team. Instead, players are free to modify their gear, adjust stat balance, and move sets within each theme as they see fit. These custom showdown squads are only available for these matches, allowing PvP-focused players to get into the format more quickly and dynamically without detracting from the traditional squad practice format in the rest of the game. You can also use manually created teams on the leaderboard if you want.
As for the ranked format itself, Crema says that the game will use a seasonal format, with exclusive cosmetic rewards offered based on your performance at the end of the season, “that cannot be obtained otherwise.” Additionally, the team says it plans to hide the TMR, a player rating, as some players have reported having trouble monitoring fluctuations. The number will still be visible via the API so players can still access it if they wish, but will otherwise be replaced with a Legend/Gold/Silver etc style ranking system. – although Cream indicates that they can choose “cooler names” than that.
Microtransactions will always be a point of contention, which is why Crema is also turning to its Novas premium currency and Tamer season pass. As with most Battle Passes, the Tamer Pass will feature free and premium tracks, around 20 rewards in the free track and another 60 in the premium track. Players can also get Novas through the free pass lane. Crema claims that “there is no P2W in Temtem” and says that every item in the pass and shop is purely cosmetic and does not provide any in-game benefits.
The team also looks at savings, saying it lowers the prices of home and cosmetic items: They were expensive initially, says Crema, because the team “wasn’t entirely sure how the economy was doing.” no. I don’t want to make such an important part of the game too cheap.” Finally, Crema introduces a new aquarium designed by one of the game’s main Kickstarter backers.
There are plenty more details to explore during launch week for fans already familiar with Temtem, but for now, that’s most of the key information.
