Relic Entertainment has detailed the upcoming roadmap for Age of Empires 4 Seasons 2 and 3, as well as a timeline for several highly requested features, including a complete remapping of hotkeys and a map preference system. . The first details of the second season of the real-time strategy game were described in March and have now been announced for July.
Along with fully remappable key inputs and the ability to list your favorite maps to influence which locations you’re most likely to see in ranked play, Season 2 also brings a new map and color option for players. The latest of these means that you can now choose your empire’s mode preferences before competing in single and multiplayer matches (including ranked matches).
The Pit is a new map and is said to be intended for “mostly open-plan” racing. More information on this and the work Relic is doing to resolve hotkey conflicts will follow shortly.
Of course, that also means a new ranked season, along with new seasonal events and a number of balance changes that the team describes as “significant” but says will be detailed closer to the season’s launch.
Relic also talks about its plans for a third season, which is currently set to introduce taunting and cheating features to the strategy game. The team says they’re “heavily inspired by what you’ve seen and experienced in previous Age games,” but want to expand the options even further. He specifies that the proposed tricks will be a mixture of “functional and playful”.
Another recent patch allows Age of Empires 4 players to choose the size of their multiplayer map. Khans and Mangonels were also recently nerfed in the game.
