Destiny 2 Osiris Standalone Challenges Could Become Permanent

Destiny 2’s ultra-competitive Osiris Challenges are going standalone this weekend, and it looks like Bungie plans to make it a permanent multiplayer feature. Freelance is currently only available occasionally, allowing solo players to jump in and compete for some of Destiny 2’s most coveted fashion items.

June 24-26 will be the first Osiris Freelance challenges for the new Ghosts season, and as the latest This Week at Bungie points out, anyone interested in 3v3 has a chance to come check it out. In Trials of Osiris, two teams of three compete in an elimination variant, with the goal being to destroy the opposing team. The first team to score five points wins the game and the goal is to “run clean” with nine consecutive wins recorded on their scoreboard.

Trials of Osiris generally require preformed teams – you need two additional players on a fireteam to enter. When she enters Trials as a freelancer, matchmaking is added and Destiny 2 will find other Guardians to add to her team.

Benjjyy, clan leader from Last Rites Destiny 2, Bungie asked on Twitter. for “freelancing all the time please and thank you” in response to a Bungie tweet promoting this week in Bungie’s latest post.

“We heard you talk about it” bungie replied. “All your comments about Freelance, especially this one, are shared with the team.”

So it’s safe to say that adding a permanent standalone queue to Trials of Osiris is, at the very least, actively discussed at Bungie. While this will encourage more players to check out the challenges each weekend, some players are concerned that it will hurt the traditional challenge player pool, as many may see matchmade challenges as an easier way to progress smoothly.

Time will tell how it usually is.
