Sure, the game is called Crusader Kings, but it involves a lot more than engaging in silly old crusades. Crusader Kings 3’s AI can almost get bogged down in the intricacies of courtroom drama and medieval politics of a grand strategy game as well as players can, to the point, it turns out, that computer gamers have forgotten about the Crusades. Paradox has released a hotfix that resolves this issue, bringing the AI back to the Holy War path.
The AI received two major fixes in Crusader Kings III update 1.6.1. The first of these is simple: “They will fight holy wars again,” says a simple patch note. This means that the AI will once again be able to use the casus belli in holy war against people of different religions, potentially forcing foreign rulers to follow the preferred rite of the attackers.
Strictly speaking, the crusades fall under a separate rubric: they are “great holy wars”, which can only be declared by religious leaders under certain conditions. But now, smaller religious disputes between neighboring states will resume. A holy war of casus belli is certainly useful: it’s an excuse to seize control of someone’s territory when you no longer have a legitimate traditional claim to the area (for example, it’s de jure part of a title you already have).
Update 1.6.1 also contains many other items. For owners of the new Fate of Iberia DLC, the patch adds new events focused on conversos, Sephardic Jews, and other religious themes in the Iberian Peninsula. New features have also been added to the base game, including the Guanche culture and pagan faith of achamanism in the Canary Islands, as well as the ability to set when the fall of the Umayyads will occur (either at the start of the game or after death). of the original caliph, or only after 1020 CE.).
Pagan cultures in West Africa now have new paths to feudalism that do not require reforming the faith; you can achieve this simply by creating a prosperous kingdom now.
The rest of the 1.6.1 patch notes can be found on the Paradox forums.
