Among Us developer Innersloth has revealed some of its plans for Among Us 2 for the canceled sequel, which was stabbed in 2020 to take the original game “to the next level.” Those plans include expanding roles and collectible items, but Innersloth admits development hasn’t progressed “far enough.”
In a recent Reddit AMA, the Innerslot Among Us team answered fan questions about the game, from comments about the game’s impact on culture to whether cats will appear as pets (probably yes). However, the team also offers some advice on the cancellation of Among Us 2 and its direction.
“A long way to go,” says Innersloth co-founder and designer of Among Us Puffballs. They explain that the team’s goal was to “change the formula a bit” with additions such as the ability to pick up items and “make the impostor use a weapon to kill.” It would also have featured larger maps, but Puffballs admits that all of these changes “would have made the game much more difficult.”
However, when asked how far along Innersloth was in development on Among Us 2 before it was cancelled, Puffballs confirmed that it “wasn’t very far” and that the game was “just in planning mode”. Another Fwfb co-founder and programmer adds that the team “didn’t really start at all” and was “just thinking about what to do to make Among Us 2 interesting.” Fwfb also adds that “roles were a big deal” in the plans for the sequel.
However, Among Us 2 is no more, and the original game is better for it. If you want to play the real new game of Among Us, Among Us VR will be released in December.
