New CS:GO update frustrates M4A1-S and shakes up Ancient

A new Counter-Strike: Global Offensive update has been released which includes big changes to the FPS game maps and a nerf to one of the best weapons in the game.

The June 15 CS:GO update released by Valve is far from the biggest update we’ve ever seen, but it will have a significant impact for some players. Going to the CS:GO patch notes for this update is a nerf for the M4A1-S. The Assault Rifle will see the magazine size reduced from 25 rounds to 20 rounds, and the pistol will regain the ammo capacity it had a few years ago. This nerf is necessary as the M4A1-S has been quite strong for the past few months thanks to the damage boost it received at the start of Operation Riptide last year.

While the weapon’s desired damage remains unchanged, there is now the downside of having fewer rounds at your disposal, which may put some players off. However, those who are accurate and frugal will find the gun still holds.

Ancient gets a facelift with 11 map changes in this update. Some of these are just fixes for visual or clipping errors, but others will be more obvious the next time you access the map.

Removed a stack of chests outside the cave, added more protection to the B-pillar. Also now has less wallbang damage when hitting enemies from the B-site pier. Keep that in mind for your next CS:GO ranked game.

Elsewhere, the bomb blast radius in Inferno has been increased from 500 to 620, so make sure to stay away if you don’t want to defuse it.

There are also fixes and improvements for Vertigo, Cache, and Vineyard – the latter being probably the biggest change of all the patch notes: “Ivy is now swinging in the wind”. Valve are true experts in immersion…

How this CS:GO update will impact the M4A1-S remains to be seen, but it won’t be long before players decide if it’s still meta.
