It won’t be released until December, but the creators of Dead Space would like to see their next horror game be the “debut” of The Callisto Protocol franchise, even if the team moves away from its roots as a PUBG spinoff. .
PCGamesN spoke with Chris Stone, creative director at Striking Distance Studios and animation director on Dead Space, about the developers’ plans for The Callisto Protocol after the first game. Stone told us that “we’d like to see The Callisto Protocol be the start of a franchise.” Furthermore, the team is “not short of ideas” for a possible sequel.
However, he confirmed that right now Striking Distance is “just 100% focused on making The Callisto Protocol the best game it can be” before the team actually considers moving on to a sequel.
Of course, The Callisto Protocol could become a full series as it is no longer connected to the PUBG universe. “As we worked on the story, it got bigger and bigger until it became clear that it was a story in itself,” explains Stone. “The Callisto Protocol is a different story with its own characters in its own universe.”
However, there may still be Easter eggs left. “We love PUBG and we will have more surprises for fans of the franchise,” says Stone.
