Fans of the horror genre may roll their eyes or jump for joy as another horror game featured at Summer Game Fest looks heavily inspired by PT. Because PT Silent Hills wasn’t there, smaller game studios took it upon themselves to try to bring atmosphere and horror into their games – often with disastrous results. So, will Luto be just another PT-inspired horror game, or can it go from strength to strength as something more?
During the Future Games Show, gamers were greeted by a trailer that could easily be confused with the announcement of PT’s reboot on consoles. Unfortunately that was not the goal. Instead, we were exposed to dilapidated buildings, rusting chains, strange mountain formations, and wooden doors.
At first glance, Luto looks like a PT clone, but with only one trailer so far, we’re still not trying to decide. Hopefully Broken Bird has some tricks to diversify the game and not be known as another PT heist.
The premise of grief is simple; You play as a man who cannot leave his home. Your goal is to find a way out, but it will take you through a series of paths that will push you to the limit.
One thing that feels positive and will help Luto stand out is the fact that you’ll repeatedly explore certain areas that aren’t just the same hallways. Mysterious structures filled with rubble and moldy benches seem to be in the game. It will help you break through the dreary hallway wallpaper as you search for an exit and return to your less psychic life.
From the trailer we can also see that the main enemy of this game looks like some sort of plate. Hopefully there’s more to this ghostly creature than meets the eye, and some spooky leaps that truly terrify us await.
Luto is coming to consoles and PC this year.
