Resident Evil Village DLC Still Won’t Let You See Ethan’s Face

The Resident Evil Village expansion launches on October 28 and includes three main expansions: the Mercenaries update, a new third-person view for the main campaign, and the Shadows of Rose expansion. And no, it looks like you still won’t be able to see Ethan Winters’ face in the third-person horror game mode.

What you get is a new stage in Shadows of Rose. Set 16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village, Shadows of the Rose follows Ethan and Mia’s daughter, Rose, as they struggle to come to terms with the source of her mysterious powers. We briefly see Rose, jaded by these powers, bullied at school and subjected to intense mental stimulation, and apparently some gross things writhing in her hands from time to time.

Rose will enter the world of the subconscious to find what she hopes will be the solution to her problems, but what awaits her there is clearly not good. Capcom said that Rose will meet a girl who looks just like her as she faces endless psychological threats where even the entire world attacks her.

We didn’t see many attacking Rose, but we did see her mysterious guide Michael leave messages for Rose in familiar places like Dimitrescu’s castle.

Even more interesting is the Duke, Ethan’s business assistant in town, but apparently one of many antagonists after Rose in this parallel universe inside her mind.

Shadows of Rose will take place entirely in third person, but what kind of gameplay, and what methods, if any, Rose has to protect herself remains a mystery for now.

Shadows of Rose launches alongside a major update to the Mercenary Village game that adds new characters, including Lady Dimitrescu, with unique playstyles designed to revolutionize multiplayer horror gameplay.

The Resident Evil Village expansion will be available to those who already own the game or in the new Resident Evil Village Gold edition. Capcom also revealed that Resident Evil Re:Verse, a troubled multiplayer battle royale, will launch alongside Shadows of Rose.

Steam gamers may have declared Village the best game of 2021, but Capcom continues to show some love for older titles as well. Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7 will be getting graphical improvements on PC in the coming weeks.
