A new free-to-play Escape from Tarkov-type game from the creators of Spec Ops: The Line is finally available on Steam after the pre-season release of The Cycle: Frontier. While the release date for the first season of The Cycle: Frontier only comes at the end of June, the FPS game has already been released and progress is delayed until the beginning of the season.
Cycle launched on the Epic Games Store in early access in August 2019, and since then developer Yager has been steadily working on the full version, making it the multiplayer PvPvE game The Cycle: Frontier. Well, it was finally released, but as a “pre-season” release two weeks before the full release of the first season.
According to a press release, The Cycle: Frontier is essentially a space version of Escape from Tarkov, set in a “fast-paced sci-fi world with persistent maps and seamless matchmaking”. The preseason allows players to try out the game and level up a bit before the full season starts, which is a bit like the beta, except Jaeger says there won’t be any “wipes” so players can save their progress.
