Terraria Meets Aliens In Dome Keeper’s Crazy Roguelike Now Playable

In the new roguelike game Dome Keeper, Terraria meets aliens in a tower defense game that combines underground mining adventures and turret explosions, reminiscent of the arcade classic Missile Command. Dome Keeper has just released a demo on Steam ahead of the upcoming Steam Next Fest 2022 event, so check it out for yourself and dive deep underground for the resources you need to protect your dome from the deadly denizens that descended upon you. you. .

Dome Keeper places the player in a dome on the surface of a mysterious hostile planet. In each match, you must descend into the depths, fighting your way for valuable materials that are used for upgrades. The terrain is divided into square blocks familiar to veterans of the game, and mining is as simple as finding them enough times to break them. The deeper you go, the harder and therefore slower mining becomes, so start upgrading your gear before you go too far.

As with Minecraft and Terraria, resources are often pooled together, so if you notice a flicker throughout your tunnel, digging through it will often reveal more valuable materials ready to harvest. Once extracted, the resources must be manually dragged to the dome for storage and use. This is done by holding down a button to bind resources to your costume, though the longer you drag behind you, the slower you’ll move, eventually staying completely still until you drop some coins on the ground.

Once your resources are in base, they can be used to upgrade your drill and jetpack, allowing you to mine and move faster, and allowing you to carry more resources at once with less impact on your maneuverability. Importantly, you can also upgrade your dome using the second (and possibly most important) aspect of Dome Keeper: protecting your base from hordes of strange alien beasts.

The tower defense section is controlled by a giant laser on your dome that can be rotated on its surface in an arc to point in any direction. You can hear incoming threats and direct attacks on your dome from down in the tunnels, so you’ll know when it’s time to go in and clear the house. Dome updates also display useful information such as the time until the next attack and the current health level of your dome.

Dome Keeper currently offers two difficulty levels: the default “brutal” option and the slightly less daunting “difficult but doable” option. It certainly sounds pretty boring at first, and the characteristic sound of hitting the surface will soon drive you crazy; you can check it out for yourself in the Steam demo available now on the game’s store page.
