Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes Experience

Created in the 1990s on the NES console, Fire Emblem has been a highly acclaimed and successful tactical JRPG series for three decades with twenty sequels (including 4 spin-offs). Since the genre of turn-based tactical games I don’t really need myself, I watched it all the time from the sidelines and envied enthusiastic players, often incredibly passionate stories about how great characters got accustomed to the heart and how difficult it was for them to choose a side in the military conflict, and then fight against former friends and classmates (with whom you train at the military academy during the peace period at the beginning, before the war divides you). Since the latest game in the series offers all the great art but combat is decided in action in the style of Warriors games, I finally jumped on that train as well.

The basic template of the game may remind many of the story of Harry Potter: the heroes meet in a military academy, located roughly in the middle between the Empire, the Kingdom and the Alliance. Here, under the supervision of experienced veterans, young warriors are trained in various professions, from traditional swordsmanship through healing magic to combat in the saddle of a winged horse. In the “student years” you will meet characters from all three neighboring countries, and you will have to choose which one you want to belong to. This is a difficult choice, because you have to decide not only according to your life or political ideals, but also according to the ruler of the country and most importantly: according to classmates who are always mixed so that each country has something interesting or interesting. In addition to lessons and training, training at the academy also includes exams in the form of real combat missions, such as against thieves who raid pillars in the nearby forest.

The template of the game may resemble the story of Harry Potter.

But once the war starts, things get very complicated and your former classmates become adversaries on the battlefield. At the same time, you will be working on the relationships between the characters in your army (by resting as well as fighting together at their side) and you will really take care of them. This is where the essence of the Fire Emblem of Attraction is revealed: your heroes can fall on the battlefield. If this happens (and you’re playing on the “classic” difficulty level), they will remain dead and disappear not only in battles, but also in history. On the other hand, you will also be able to convince one of the enemies to join your army under certain circumstances. In this way, the game spreads its wings and perfectly engages you in the action, in every conversation and every battle.

Your heroes may fall on the battlefield.

While Three Hopes is the “turning point” of the main series, it takes on the narrative and style of the highly successful 2019 Three Houses “main” game (it won the player vote for Best Game at The Game Awards at The Game Awards). awards). time). It also takes over the story and characters, but with some very important changes. Most importantly, your avatar from the original game serves as the main enemy in this game that you have to defeat. To do this, you create a new character, a mercenary named Shez (male or female, you decide). The plot is largely based on the previous game and offers hardcore fans some answers, among other things. But it also works without any knowledge of previous games.

As far as the battles themselves, the Warriors’ (or 1v1000) style of play doesn’t need much explanation, I think. You run from the back of your character across the battlefield and destroy hordes of enemies with sweeping attacks. You can switch between multiple playable characters on the battlefield (and decide who exactly you go into battle with). But what is very important for this game is the presence of many tactical and strategic layers, characteristic of the Fire Emblem series. During battles, you also have the opportunity to stop the action at any time and give commands to the characters on the tactical map. Outside of combat, you can train, trade, and spend time with the characters at your military camp, and on the map, you can choose from small side quests to gain resources or large story missions to progress further. The game offers multiple difficulty settings to suit how much action or tactics you want.

I have waited a long time for the right opportunity to join this series, and now I must say with satisfaction that it lives up to all my expectations, which have grown over the years. I really fell in love with the characters from all sides of the conflict, I’m fascinated by how well the creators balance the line between good and evil (your leader may do things for the right reasons, but the brutality of war gradually affects him and changes his behavior). After an initial slower introduction to the game mechanics, I’m already absolutely confident in terms of controls and tactical and role-playing layers, moving through the UI interface with complete naturalness, like a butter knife. I’m behind the first ten hours and can’t wait to see how the story continues.
