The new Elden Ring mod aims to adjust the difficulty of the entire RPG to be challenging but fair, that’s what it’s literally called. The “Hard but Fair” mod aims to make the Elden Ring armor sets more useful and balance magic, balance, and the entire area of Giant’s Peaks.
Elden Ring is one of the best open world games on PC and definitely a candidate for Game of the Year, but even though it’s supposed to be a difficult game (it’s similar to Souls after all), some fans think it’s hard to get over. in some areas, or at least slightly unbalanced.
This new mod by KeKeffect on Nexus Mods aims to overhaul Elden Ring with changes intended to make things harder but fairer. The armor change is the only optional change in the mod, but KeKeffect says the goal is to make the armor “really useful and not just glorified tissue paper” with a variety of benefits in areas like absorption and resistance on all assemblies.
Balance damage has also been reworked, with each enemy now dealing “50 or 100 balance damage”, so the mod fixes that to make it a bit more subtle. Magic has been nerfed with an increase in spell and spell cost, and many Spirit Ashes have been given a health debuff.
In terms of areas, the mod specifically focuses on the balance changes of Giant’s Peaks, which is considered by some players to be the most difficult jump in the game. To address this, “enemy damage has been reduced and overall area scaling has been rebalanced to more gradual.” In terms of enemy-specific changes, Margit the Fell Omen has lost some of her health.
The mod looks like an interesting experiment in rebalancing Elden Ring, though the modder admits that it’s still a work in progress, and in particular that “I haven’t tried this mod myself, but I will in my next game.” So the “Hard but Fair” mod might not be quite fair yet.
